Lions showcasing their Best: The Lions look to hit the Steelers with their best shot on Saturday; Jahvid Best. Best has impressed coaches and teammates during training camp in more ways than one. He can run the ball, but has looked inspiring in the way that he is receiving and blocking. With Kevin Smith unlikely to play in Pittsburgh as he recovers from the knee surgery that ended his 2009 season, Best is expected to get some playing time with Detroit’s first-string offense.
Quarterback Quandary: Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, has been very quiet regarding the quarterback play tonight. Ben Roethlisberger and Byron Leftwich have been splitting the time with the offenses in the preseason. The Steelers want to make sure that they get enough time with Roethlisberger, but since he is going to be suspended for the first four to six games. They also need to clarify their signal caller situation.
Young players on display: The one thing that Mike Tomlin did say about this game is that he expects his starters to just be in the game for 8-12 snaps. That leaves plenty of room for his younger players to make an impact. The teams top draft pick, Maurkice Pouncey will get some time to show his skills. On defense, Thaddeus Gibson will try to show his impressive play at camp is the real thing.

Detroit Lions vs Pittsburgh Steelers
Week 1 – NFL Preseason 2010
The Pittsburgh Steelers will make their 2010 debut with a home preseason game Saturday against the Detroit Lions.
Considering the pending, conditional six-game suspension of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, this will be one of the most interesting exhibition seasons in recent memory for Pittsburgh
Rookies Maurkice Pouncey (guard/center), Emmanuel Sanders (WR) and Jonathan Dwyer (RB) have a chance to contribute early if they quickly develop. The most pressure to perform this preseason will be on Pouncey, who was taken in the first round. Pittsburgh's offensive line has struggled running the football in the red zone and with pass protection, and Pouncey should help.
